I would like to re-open a pocket door in my kitchen that was previously closed off, but the door itself is no longer there. Can I use any door for a pocket door, or do I need a specific type?

Hi Liz,
As long as the measurement is correct for the pocket opening, the door is the right thickness, and the door hasn’t been pre-drilled for a standard door lockset or hinges, you can use any kind of door for a pocket door.
Just drill and mortise the new door to accept the pocket door hardware, hang it on the pocket door slide, and you’re good to go.
Good luck with your project,
