Founded in 2005 by a group of college students, College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving initially offered small moves and local junk removal jobs. In only two years, the company expanded with independent franchises throughout the United States and Southern Canada, establishing itself as a nationwide provider with a reputation for high-quality moves at lower prices.
So, how does College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving stack up against other moving providers? Keep reading for my comprehensive guide on this company’s pricing, services, moving options, customer reviews, and everything else you need to know before selecting a mover.
My Preferred Moving Companies
After hours of research, I’ve determined that College Hunks is a decent moving company for families who need quick service, junk removal, and donation pickup. However, while College Hunks has some strong points, such as next-day service and partnering with charities, it doesn’t rank as highly as the following providers.

My Review of College Hunks
Choosing College Hunks for its junk removal and moving services has many perks, including charitable contributions, same-day services, and easy scheduling. Unfortunately, this company’s customer reputation and ratings give me pause. During my research, I found many worrying reviews about miscommunication issues between the managing office and moving crew and pricing disputes, which are headaches I wouldn’t personally want to deal with on an already stressful day.
Overall, this provider stands out for the wrong reasons compared to other providers for its poor customer reviews, limited availability, and lack of specialty services. College Hunks would not be among my top choices for a moving provider.

College Hunks Pros and Cons
Pros
- Leading provider specializing in junk removal services of unwanted items
- Prioritizes donating any usable furniture or items that have a chance at a second home, making this company less wasteful than many junk removal companies
- Same and next-day services offer flexibility that many moving companies can’t match
- Up-front pricing for all moves and cleanout services (no worries about hidden fees)
Cons
- Only available in 38 states, unlike many nationwide providers who provide services to the entire contiguous U.S.
- Lacks specialty moving services, such as packing for antique items or valuables
What I Liked and Didn’t Like
As someone interested in a moving provider, you’re undoubtedly looking for the best services at the best price possible, so keep reading for a detailed breakdown of different areas of College Hunk’s business and how this affected my overall rating.
Moving options include the types of moves a company handles and coordinates, such as if it provides local moves or specialized relocation services for corporate employees or members of the military.
What I Like
- College Hunks offers local moves, corporate relocation, and long-distance moving services, which will meet most people’s needs. All the company “hunks” undergo in-depth move training to learn the best way to wrap and secure your personal belongings to prevent scratches, cracks, dings, and breaks, so you can rest easy knowing your items are fully protected. You can even hire College Hunks to help with a DIY move as it offers truck and pod loading and unloading solutions, a more unusual offering in the industry.
What I Don’t Like
- If you’re interested in an international move, College Hunks can’t help you. It also doesn’t offer service to many states, so arranging a long-distance move may not pan out with this provider if one of the states is out of its service area. Compared to many other long-distance movers, this is a significant con that makes the process more complicated than necessary.
If you need help packing, disconnecting appliances, or moving fragile items like artwork, hot tubs, or musical instruments, you’ll want to choose a company with a large variety of additional services.
What I Like
- The company is best known for its junk removal services, which go above and beyond most moving providers’ junk removal services because of its eco-friendly focus that prioritizes finding new homes for usable items. College Hunks’ website states up to 70% of everything its team hauls is recycled or donated — a significant improvement over most moving providers who don’t disclose what happens to items after junk removal. Some of the most frequently removed “junk” include furniture, mattresses, carpeting, appliances, scrap metal, tires, boxsprings, hot tubs, paint, and even office equipment.
What I Don’t Like
- Compared to other providers, College Hunks has fewer additional services, such as specialty packing for valuables or vehicle shipping, which many homeowners rely on when making a significant move. This provider has excellent junk removal services, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anybody needing other specialty services due to its limited options.
A moving provider could be the best in the industry, but if it doesn’t provide service in your area or to where you’re moving, then you’ll need to evaluate other options.
What I Like
- College Hunks provides moving services to 38 states, a greater service area than smaller movers. This provider comprises franchises, giving them over 160 locations throughout these states, so you’ll likely find a location close to you.
What I Don’t Like
- College Hunks has limited availability compared to other nationwide providers, with no availability in 12 states. This is a significant con compared to providers like International Van Lines, which offers services to all states and many countries. Lastly, service profile and pricing vary from location to location, which makes coordinating a move more challenging.
Customer service is a critical factor when considering any service provider, as knowing how customers have been treated in the past will make a big difference in whether or not you choose a company.
What I Like
- I like that College Hunks clearly states its moving and junk hauling processes online so customers know exactly what the day will look like step by step. After removing junk, the moving team even conducts a complimentary clean-up, so your home is left better than when they started.
Customers rave about the same-day and next-day service options, an unusual offering in an industry that typically requires booking several weeks in advance. Reviews also highlighted the customer’s positive experience with the young men who came to their home and the hard work they put into the job.
What I Don’t Like
- Customer reviews brought up issues with communication between the booking agent and the College Hunks moving team. I found many reviews that noted that the customer asked for their items to be donated, but the team that arrived was not informed of this and only came prepared to remove the junk and dump it. These findings are hugely disappointing, especially from a company whose claim to fame is eco-friendly junk removal.
A provider’s reputation gives crucial insight into how it compares to its competitors and the name it has made for itself through charity, awards won, Better Business Bureau ratings, and more.
What I Like
- After appearing on Shark Tank, College Hunks has made a strong name for itself in the industry. Over the last 15 years, the company has served millions of clients and grown into an INC 500 Company that has appeared on CNN, Oprah, Fox News, and USA Today. I also love how the company donates meals to children facing food insecurity through its partnership with US Hunger and partners with a domestic violence program, Goodwill Industries, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and PickUpMyDonation.com. College Hunks’ reputation for charity matters to me and many other homeowners, making this a significant plus.
What I Don’t Like
- While the College Hunks website boasts high customer reviews, my research yielded less-than-ideal customer reviews on Yelp and Trustpilot. As of August 2023, College Hunks Hauling Junk and Moving has a 2.3-star rating on Trustpilot and a 3.2-star rating on Yelp. Most concerning, I found that College Hunks has an F rating with the Better Business Bureau, the lowest score I’ve seen among the many moving providers I’ve reviewed. I wouldn’t personally be comfortable hiring this provider with these worrying ratings. However, it’s important to note that this company’s reviews vary dramatically based on the specific franchise, so check out reviews for your local franchise before making a final decision.
